USA Volleyball sets the age definitions for our sport. They use Sep. 1 as the date for determining the age group in which an athlete may compete. By their definitions, younger athletes may always play on an older team, but older athletes may not play on a younger team.
Below are the age definitions for 2009-2010.
An athlete is in the:
- 10-and-under age group if her birthday falls between Sep. 1, 1999 and the present. (Our 10s program)
- 12-and-under age group if her birthday falls between Sep. 1, 1997 and Aug. 31, 1999. (Our 12s program)
- 13-and-under age group if her birthday falls between Sep. 1, 1996 and Aug. 31, 1997. (house, local, travel description)
- 14-and-under age group if her birthday falls between Sep. 1, 1995 and Aug. 31, 1996. (house, local, travel description)
- 15-and-under age group if her birthday falls between Sep. 1, 1994 and Aug. 31, 1995. (house, local, travel description)
- 16-and-under age group if her birthday falls between Sep. 1, 1993 and Aug. 31, 1994. (house, local, travel description)
- 17-and-under age group if her birthday falls between Sep. 1, 1992 and Aug. 31, 1993. (house, local, travel description)
- 18-and-under age group if her birthday falls between Sep. 1, 1991 and Aug. 31, 1992. (house, local, travel description)
*USA Volleyball has recently defined a 10-and-under age group, however, very few clubs and competitions utilize it. Typically, any child who birthday fall in the 12-and-under age group or the 10-and-under age group will be placed on a 12-and-under team in most clubs. NFVB does field a 10-and-under team so are younger athletes do have a separate level. At the same time, any 10-and-under may tryout to skip the 10s program and start in our 12-and-under program.
