With the heightened awareness over the potential spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), Niagara Frontier Volleyball wanted to provide some important information to make sure we are all educated and prepared. The following is based on guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:

  • Keep your child home when they are sick, especially with a fever or respiratory disease symptoms.  Do not have your child come to an event or practice until they are free of a fever (100.4 F or greater) without the use of fever-reducing or other symptom altering medicines for at least 24 hours.  As with any other situation involving time away from practices and events, players should notify their coach of their absence as soon as possible.
  • If a player comes to an event or practice and appears to have respiratory illness symptoms (e.g., cough, shortness of breath) or becomes sick during that time, we may send the player home.
  • Remind players to cover coughs or sneezes with a tissue and immediately dispose of the tissue in an appropriate receptacle.
  • Remind players to wash hands often with soap & water for at least 20 seconds, especially after using the restroom, after blowing their nose and coughing, and before eating.
  • The facility has alcohol-based sanitizer at the entry of each door into the gym. Encourage players to use these products before they enter the gym and after they are done with practices and TREO.
  • We are asking parents and guardians to drop their children off at the facility rather than hang out in the lobby of the facility during practices to protect our 500 plus youth players from any unnecessary exposure to illness until further notice.

The following statement was distributed to all WEVA members via email on Tuesday March 10th:

Commencing with this weekend’s WEVA and club events and continuing until further notice, WEVA is implementing the following amendment to match protocol.

The match will begin with both teams lined up on their respective end lines.

The first referee will proceed to the stand and beckon the teams to the court.

The teams will then proceed to their respective attack lines. Once there they will wave to each other, optionally exchange verbal goods wishes, wave to the crowd and proceed to their positions on the court for the line-up check.

During any subsequent side changes, players and coaches should avoid any direct contact. That being the intent, we will continue using the old method of changing sides around the first referee.

At the conclusion of the match, the first referee will send teams, players and coaches to the end lines. They will then be again beckoned to their respective attack lines to exchange greetings and congratulations from there.

This is not optional. The well-being of our players, coaches staff members and families has to be our top priority.

All teams are asked to bring hand sanitizer and encourage all to use for the safety of all players, coaches, staff and families.

Thanks for your help,

WEVA BOARD OF DIRECTORS
