NFVB Alum Help Spark Turnaround Season at Buffalo State

A pair of former NFVB athletes played keys roles in helping Buffalo State bounce back into conference tournament post-season play for the first time since 2014.

In her first season at Buffalo State, Jenna Hugenschmidt took the role of starting libero and played in 76 sets leading the Bengals in digs (281) and service aces (43).  Hugenschmidt, a 2018 graduate of Clarence High School, finished second among all conference players in the SUNYAC in service aces per set (0.57) and was seventh in digs per set (3.70).

2020 Williamsville North graduate Maddie Hannon appeared in 68 of the team’s 88 sets as a defensive specialist and was third among Bengal players in digs (128).

The rebound season for Buffalo State saw the team qualify for the SUNYAC conference tournament for the first time since 2014 and finished with an overall record of 11-13, marking the program’s highest win total since 2015.

Buffalo State head coach, Maria Roberts is a former NFVB 18 navy coach, and assistant coach John Hutton, is currently the head coach for boys 18-silver team and master coach in the boys regional gym.

Congratulations to all players and coaches!
